Hellen van Meene is a dutch photographer from the Netherlands. She directs and photographs color portraits of mostly young girls and women with no modeling experience. In some portraits, the viewer is unsure whether the poses are constructed or spontaneous. The performances often deal with self-consciousness. She focuses on young women to show the vulnerability of puberty. Her photos show the detachment of the subjectsThey are very quiet beautiful moments. Her work is definitely categorized as “If this is Art” because they evolve from strategy and happenings. This type of art is more about conveying ideas and actions, where the act in the photo is what is important.
