Canadian artist Allan Sekula makes investigations on major economic and social events in his writings and documentary photography. He intentionally makes his images in a way that they can not be reduced into iconic images on subjects he studies so that he can have a prominent place in international exhibitions. In his series Fish Story, he shows the history of sea trade routes along with current problems of the maritime industry using texts, slides, and photos. She shows how this form of widespread trade is often a forgotten means of globalization. The photographs are taken all over the world in port cities of the US, Korea, Scotland, and Poland. The project was done over a span of seven years.
His film, The Forgotten Space, is a film sequel to Fish Story.
